Traffic on Nairobi- Garissa road resumes after floods disruption

The road traffic in Nairobi - Garissa road today resumed after the last washout at Kona punda of the Maroro area was restored.
The Kenya National Highways Authority who officially opened the closed road encouraged traders to take advantage of the free flow of traffic to supply essential commodities to Garissa town and its surrounding areas.

KeNHA said the residents have suffered a lot without essential supplies for some time following the road cut-off occasioned by the floods.
The road's authority promised to remain on the ground to monitor and alert of any new development to ensure seamless connectivity along the entire stretch.

They also announced that Garsen-Witu -Lamu road still remain closed due to flooding
They said the Kenya Coast Guard provided a boat to assist pedestrians in crossing the flooded section of Gamba and Lango la Simba roads.
KeNHA revealed that the road was completely submerged following the floods of the River Tana that recently burst its banks.
They appealed to motorists to continue halting their operation until the water levels subsided and an assessment was done to ascertain the condition of the road.
